Windermere is a few minutes from the shop. We are on Anthony Crescent in Allard, which is effectively the next community over, and being this close changes the advice entirely.

None of the usual distance arguments apply

On most of these pages we spend a paragraph steering people away from on-site visits because the travel is the expensive part. Here it is not. A $50 pick-up is a trivial round trip, and on-site at $130/hr carries almost no drive.

So pick on convenience. Remote at $85/hr is still the fastest route for anything software and you watch the whole thing happen. But you are not choosing it to save us a journey.

What a Windermere house tends to need

Large newer homes have a specific and very common problem: the internet arrives at one corner of the basement, and the house is too big and too well insulated for a single router to cover. People buy faster plans to fix it, which does nothing, because the bottleneck is coverage rather than speed.

Mesh systems help but are frequently installed wrong — nodes placed where there is a power outlet rather than where the signal actually reaches. Getting that right needs somebody walking the house with a meter, which is a genuine on-site job and usually a short one.

The other regular is the home office that outgrew its equipment. A work laptop, a personal machine, a printer nobody can reach, and a video call that drops whenever someone starts streaming upstairs.

Working from home with client data

A lot of people here run a business from the house or work from home for an employer elsewhere. That creates a split nobody planned: your work laptop is managed by someone else's IT department, and your home network — which everything passes through — is managed by nobody.

If client data lives on a machine in the house, backup stops being optional. Managed IT is $100 per user per month at entry, and $140 for the tier that includes verified backups where somebody has actually performed and dated a restore.

What people here ask first.

You are practically local. Does that make it cheaper?

The rates are the same everywhere — $85/hr remote, $50 pick-up, $130/hr on-site. What being close changes is that an on-site visit is quick and easy to arrange.

My Wi-Fi does not reach the whole house. Is that fixable?

Almost always, and usually without a new plan from your provider. It is a coverage and placement problem, which needs somebody in the house to solve properly.

Can you set up a home office properly?

Yes — network, printer, backup, and making sure the work machine and the family machines are not tripping over each other. That is on-site at $130/hr.

Do you handle Apple as well as Windows?

Yes for the everyday work — setup, networks, mail, data transfer and recovery. Tell us what you have when you call.

Can you help with smart home gear that keeps dropping?

Often, because the cause is usually the network rather than the devices. Too many things on one band, or coverage that does not reach where the device lives.

Do you help set up backups for family photos?

Yes, and it is worth doing before rather than after. The cheapest version is automatic and off-site, and it takes about twenty minutes to set up properly once.
