What remote support is good for
If the problem is software rather than hardware, remote is almost always the right answer. It's cheaper than on-site, faster than drop-off, and there's nothing to unplug, carry or collect afterwards.
- Email that won't send, receive, or connect after a password change
- Virus and malware removal on machines that are still usable
- Software that won't install, won't launch, or has started misbehaving
- Windows updates that keep failing or keep reverting
- Printers that have stopped being found
- New software and device setup, and getting it configured properly
- Performance tuning: startup programs, storage cleanup, general tidying
- Account, backup and cloud storage setup
- "How do I…": genuinely, this is a reasonable thing to book us for
What it can't do
Remote support needs a machine that starts up and gets online. If yours won't boot, won't power on, or the drive has failed, there's nothing to connect to: that's a bench repair or a data recovery job.
It also can't replace parts. Anything that needs a screwdriver needs a person.
How a session works
We arrange a time, send you a link, and you allow the connection. You'll see your own screen the entire time and watch everything we do, nothing happens invisibly, and you can end the session instantly at any point.
When we're done, the access ends. We're not left with a standing connection to your computer, and there's no software quietly running afterwards.
On security
Being cautious about letting someone connect to your computer is the correct instinct. That exact mechanism is how phone scams work. So, worth stating plainly:
- We will never phone you out of the blue claiming there's a problem with your computer. Anyone who does is running a scam. Hang up.
- We won't ask for your banking details, and we won't ask you to buy gift cards. Ever.
- A remote session only ever happens because you contacted us and arranged it.
- You watch everything and can disconnect whenever you like.
If you've already let someone suspicious connect to your machine, contact us quickly: that's a situation worth acting on rather than hoping about.
You don't have to be in Edmonton
This is the one service with no geography attached. Our repair, on-site and recovery work covers Edmonton and the surrounding communities, but remote support works from anywhere with a connection: useful if you've moved away, if you're travelling, or if you're the family member who ends up being everyone's tech support from three provinces over.
Remote Tech Support, answered plainly.
How much is remote support?
Is it safe to let you connect?
What if my computer won't turn on?
Do you need to be in Edmonton?
Can you help my parents while I'm not there?
A REMOTE SUPPORT CUSTOMER
“I found Rightek through a Google search and decided to reach out... he was willing to take on my odd job. He was very friendly, professional, and honest with his pricing and the work. The turnaround time was quick and he did the best that he could to fix it. I would recommend Brad and Rightek IT Services.”
